ABOUT THE FISHING RIGHTS ALLIANCE
Protecting your fishing rights since our inception….
Our Mission
The FRA’s mission is to protect anglers’ fishing rights by advocating for sound resource
management and conservation practices that maximize the opportunity to fish.
FRA membership pursues their mission through participation, research and litigation.
Our Vision
Anglers are good stewards of our marine resources, advocating for sound
conservation of our marine resources and maximized access to sustainable fisheries.
What We Do
The FRA is involved in cooperative research, stock assessments, state and federal
fisheries management and legislation affecting the management of our fisheries and fishing activity.
Why We Do It
Recreational fishing is a $130 Billion economic engine driven by 11 million saltwater anglers generating over 455,000 jobs in the United States. (D.O.C. Fisheries Economics of the United States, 2011)
National Marine Fisheries Service’s mismanagement costs us jobs and fishing opportunities. In Florida alone, thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity have already been lost due to the unnecessary closure of major recreational fisheries, in defiance of Magnuson-Stevens.
NMFS’ recent, self-proclaimed ‘management victories’ for fisheries come from closures, not management. Job loss and economic damage result from Annual Catch Limits being based on fatally flawed data.
